Tips to Save Money at Walgreens!

Walgreens is a great place to shop once you get the hang of it and understand the difference between register rewards and points. They have great deals every week. It’s just a matter f putting together a plan.

Balance Rewards Program

You must join the Balance Rewards Program to get the sales prices and earn your balance rewards points. Signing up is easy. You can do it online or in the store. You will give the cashier you card to swipe, or you can use your phone number attached to the card, to participate.

Save Big

There are two niceways you can get a great deals. One is the in ad coupons that they put in their weekly. It can be something as simple as tuna for $0.69. There is usually a limit but these make great little fillers when you need one for a deal. You can also stack these coupons with a manufacturer coupon for an even better deal.

The monthly savings book is another great resource.  They are full of coupons that are good for that particular month. Again, these can be stacked with manufacturer coupons. No clipping needed! Just have them scan the book and the coupon will be applied to all qualified purchases!

Register Rewards Are Great

Register Rewards is one of the nicest things about shopping Walgreens. It’s like a catalina in that it prints from the register after your purchase. Each week the ad will list the register rewards deals. They are used just like cash towards future purchases. They usually have a two week time before they expire. Another great way to get some freebies as they are often for things like “ buy 1 Energydrink for $1 get a $1 register reward”.

Remember, RR (register rewards) are a limit of 1 per transaction. If you buy 6 Energy drinks at one time you will not get 6 ($1) RR. You have to buy them in separate transactions. You also, as a rule, cannot use the Energy drink RR to buy another Energy drink if you want to get another RR. But you can use your $1 RR from the Energy drink to buy, say Colgate toothpaste, that is triggering a RR. That is known as rolling your register rewards. Many people find it easier to just do use them from week to week. The first week you may pay some upfront but you will have a nice stash to spend the following week.

Balance Rewards Points – Another Great Perk

Balance Rewards Points are another great benefit of Walgreens. Again, check the weekly ads to see what is on sale that is generating points. Earning the points is easy. You just buy qualifying products and earn Points. You have to remember to scan your card or enter your number for them to count when you checkout.

Unlike RR points don’t have to be broken up into separate transactions. You can do it all in one single deal. You can stack a points deal with a RR deal and use your manufacturer coupon.

You can earn multiple Points in a single transaction. There is not a limit on how many times you can receive Points from the same promotion. In most cases, you do not even need to do separate transactions to earn multiple Points from the same promotion! These deals are not cumulative. If you need to spend $30 on BIC to earn the points you have to do it all at one time. Yout points should show up on your receipt immediately.

Redeeming Points

You have to have at least 1,000 points to redeem them. Here is a chart that tells you the increments you can redeem in:

(1)1,000 Points = $1.00
(2) 2,000 Points = $2.00
(3) 3,000 Points = $3.00
(4) 5,000 Points = $5.00
(5) 10,000 Points = $10.00
(6) 18,000 Points = $20.00
(7) 30,000 Points = $35.00
(8) 40,000 Points = $50.00

Obviously you will get the most benefit from them if you save them until you have 40.000. They have changed things up a bit as it used to be you couldn’t use points and earn them. This is not the case anymore.

Use The Right Amount of Coupons

The one major thing to remember is Walgreens will not accept more coupons than you have items for. For example, if you buy 8 items and you have 8 manufacturer coupons and you have 1 store coupon and you are paying with a register reward the machine counts it as 10 coupons. This is where those filler items are used! Just remember, have something in the cart for the total number of coupons and RR you plan on using.

Once you get the hang of it Walgreens is a great place to shop.
