7 Items to Sell Around Your House for Extra Money

The average person has a lot of extra stuff lying around their house that they never use. Clothes they never wear, old electronics that have been replaced with newer models, furniture that sits in storage, books you’re never going to read again, and more.

Why not get rid of some of this extra stuff and make a little money in the process?

Whether you want to declutter or make some extra cash, there are many items lying around your home that you can sell.

Forget about the excuses not to sell:

  • “No one will buy my junk.”
  • “That item isn’t worth much.”
  • “It’s easier just to throw it away.”

If you are throwing stuff away that you could be selling, then you are throwing money away.

There are many places you can sell your stuff. These include:

  • eBay
  • Craigslist
  • Garage/yard sale
  • Thrift/consignment stores
  • Facebook Buy/Sell Groups

Here are 7 things you can sell from your home to make money:

Clothing

Everyone has extra clothing they don’t wear anymore.  Cleaning out your closet is a fast and easy way to find stuff to sell. Check out your local thrift and consignment stores to see if they are accepting new items.  There are also online consignment options like ThredUp. If it’s still in good shape but you don’t wear it anymore, someone else might really like it and be willing to pay for it.

Electronics and appliances

Some possible items might include cell phones, laptops, computers, cameras, and TVs.  Old appliances are always a good option too.  Even if it doesn’t work, some junkyards will come and haul your old appliances away and give you cash for them so they can disassemble them and sell the parts.

Side note: If you’re selling a cell phone or computer, make sure you completely clear any personal information before selling it.

Furniture

If you’ve redecorated or just have extra furniture taking up space, get rid of what you don’t need and make some extra cash.

If you have tables or dressers that are need a little TLC, consider repainting or refurbishing before selling to make more money

Books

Whether you have a stack of old textbooks, novels, encyclopedias, or any other books, you may be able to sell them.

Depending on the type of book, you can sell them online at Amazon, eBay, or Cash4Books.net.  Or try a college bookstore or local thrift store.

Movies

Movies are another great item to sell for extra cash. Old movies, TV series sets, and even old video games.  Check out movie and game stores in your area or list them on Amazon or eBay.

Gift Cards

If you’re like a lot of people, you probably have gift cards that you’ll never use. Instead of letting it go to waste, sell it online.  It doesn’t matter if the card has the original full amount or if you’ve spent a portion of it.  Sites like Gift Card Granny and Card Pool will give you up to 92% of the gift card’s value.

Sporting Goods

There are probably sporting goods thrift stores in your area that are willing to buy your old equipment.

Typically they resell used items for about 40-60% of the original price. You would receive 30-50% of that amount depending on current demand, condition and inventory levels of similar products.  You can also sell items on eBay and Craigslist or at a garage sale.
